From Courtney:

I have the best friends and family in the world! You have supported me in countless meaningful ways as I have established my career, bought my condo, and served as a foster parent for six children.

I hope I can count on your continued support as I embark on the biggest, most exciting journey of all.

Ten years ago, at age 22, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It was a devastating blow, but I’m blessed with a doctor who worked tirelessly to figure out the best combination of medication for me to control my pain and stay fully physically active. Since then, I’m proud to say that I have “normalized” my RA and not allowed it to overshadow my life. I continue to be on the minimum amount of medication needed to control my symptoms, and my doctor remains very pleased with my progress.

However, a new complication of my RA has emerged.

I have always wanted to be a mother. I believe I was put on earth to have a child. I have taught, babysat and loved many children throughout the years, but to have one little life that I am entirely responsible for would be a precious opportunity. I would love to nurture and care for a child from the moment they are born, and watch how beautifully they grow.

Unfortunately, my RA makes it impossible for me to be pregnant: my medications would harm a fetus, and I cannot live a healthy life without my medications.

I took significant steps to become a mother when I became licensed to care for foster children. I have given these children everything possible, but the foster-to-adopt program tends to be pro-birth family and has not worked in my favor; I am still without a child of my own.

I am faced with a growing sense of urgency to become a mom. The time is right for me to forge ahead with something big and scary and exhilarating: surrogacy. I have a close family friend who is eager to serve as my surrogate. She’s had two healthy pregnancies of her own, and she is a labor & delivery nurse who has worked closely with women involved in all stages of surrogacy. She feels called to do it herself, and she would love to give this experience to me as the most profound gift ever.

Things are happening very quickly! We are meeting with doctors and attorneys and surrogacy specialists to put the details in place. Of course, the most significant challenge for me is coming up with the financial means to make this surrogacy happen. I have savings in place, but these will not cover the full amount. As a result, I started this GoFundMe page for you, my friends and family, to help me become a mother.

Please consider contributing to my precious cause. Every single dollar you donate will be put to good use in the months ahead.

As my former foster children can attest, I have a ton of love to give. With your generous support, I can give this love to my long-awaited baby. And I can triumph over my RA once and for all.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

From her gestational carrier, Ashley:

Surrogacy has always been something that was in my heart. Even before I had my own two children, I have always been mesmerized with the whole concept of pregnancy and birth, and giving a gift of this magnitude to someone deserving. I am a labor and delivery nurse and have worked with surrogate families in my line of work, and it has further solidified my strong desire to puruse this.

Two healthy pregnancies, normal deliveries, and amazing children later, I'm ready to journey down a new path... one that I have been talking with Courtney about for YEARS. Its surreal to find ourselves here, standing at the entrance to this adventure that was such a distant dream before, but we need your help, and heres why its worth it:

I have really amazing friends and family. I met my husband when I was 15 (I am 27 now) and I met Courtney on a family camping trip that very first year. Fastforward 12 years and I  can say that out of every amazing friend and family member I have (and I'll say it again, I am blessed to have A LOT), Courtney is that one person who strikes me as someone who NEEDS to be a mom...like that's what she was sent here to do. She has devoted so much of herself to being a teacher, a foster parent, a trusted caregiver for my own children when needed, and a treasured friend. I can think of no one more deserving. She has invested every piece of her being into making others, especially children, feel loved and special.

I'm willing to do this for her... the lawyers, the injections, launching this page, the 9 MONTHS OF PREGNANCY AND BIRTH... all of it, because she is worth a million times over everything that any of us could possibly put into it. I beg of you, make her a mom, not just for her, but for the SERIOUSLY lucky kid that will get to call her mommy.

Thanks for helping.
