We are embarking on a new adventure and are asking for family and friends to partner with us in this journey.
A short history...
For those of you who are unfamiliar with our story, Jami and I met in High School and dated off/on in the couple of years after and were married when Jami completed college. After a few years as a young married couple we decided to start a family but lost our first baby to miscarriage. Shortly after, however, were blessed with our first son, Jack and then Connor came almost two years later.
The change...
In the fall of 2014, we were extremely surprised to find out we were expecting a little girl. This was a bit of a shock to our system as the boys were entering their pre-teen years and we really thought we were done with that season of life. We had a few bumps in the road during the pregnancy, but - looking back - I believe God truly was preparing our hearts and home for another child.
The world stopped turning for us on May 26th of 2015. For reasons that will have to wait to be answered until we are reunited with her, Paige Faith Michelle was born into heaven. Many weeks followed where we had to find the new "normal" in our lives and for our family. We would not have been able to endure without our faith of God's plan for our lives and the outpouring of support we felt from family and friends.
Why adoption...
Even though it took a few months to voice our thoughts about next steps to each other, Jami and I both felt early on that adoption could be a strong possibility for us. The rhythm of our family still didn't seem right without the presence of the joy/laughter/cries/sleepless nights that uniquely come from a new baby in the home. However, Jami had had three rough pregnancies and I had already done the deed to "fix" things on the baby-making front. We began investigating in the spring of 2016 the different avenues and found an adoption agency here in Castle Rock that made the most sense.
Why it costs so much...
We had similar questions when first investigating, but soon found out that there are many line items that we did not think of. There are legal fees, background checks, home studies on our side. And because we are working with a non-profit organization that provides all the counseling, services and family planning needs of the birth parents at no cost to them, the costs can quickly add up and need to come from somewhere.
There are two major financial milestones that we have. Up to this point we have been doing all the background and prep work for us to be put into the queue. Next, we will wait to be paired with a birth family, wait for the birth and placement, and then the final legal steps.
The costs are as follows:
$400 - Application Fee
$2,400 - Home study & Training
$10,200 - Program Matching Fee
$12,000 - Program Placement Fee
$3,000 - Misc. Pass-Thru Costs
We have been extremely blessed with a grant/loan from our church through their adoption fund for $10,000. This has allowed us to pass the first milestone that allows our profile to be shown to prospective birth families. So, now we are in the mix and able to be matched with a Colorado birth family.
We know we cannot do this on our own. God has shown us that he will provide for our needs in this process and we believe he will continue to show us that by allowing others to partner with us for the remaining costs that will come due when we are matched and a child is placed with our family. That is what we now need help with.
