What is gastroschisis? It is a birth defect of the abdominal wall, where the baby's intestines grow outside of the baby's belly through a hole beside her belly button. It occurs when the muscles that make up the baby's abdominal wall don't form correctly. The causes and risk factors for gastroschisis are unknown and almost 1900 babies are born with it each year.
Due to the gastroschisis, Megan will be having a C-Section as opposed to a natural birth. As soon as our baby is born she will need to endure surgery to place the abdominal organs inside her body and repair the abdominal wall. After surgery she will be kept in the NICU for healing which can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. The average length of stay for a baby after gastroschisis surgery is a month and a half. As her intestines slowly begin working she will need to be fed through a tube that goes through a large vein or a tube that passes through the nose or mouth into the stomach.
Although we have been preparing for the coming of our baby girl, no one can be quite readily prepared for this. There are a lot of unforeseen costs coming our way that we do not have enough to cover. The specialized doctors visits, c-section, surgery, and stay in the NICU will all be tough for us to cover.
We appreciate anything and everything that we receive and couldn't be more excited for the coming of our baby girl. We thank you all for your love, your donations and your support as we go through this.
May the good Lord give you the strength courage knowledge wisdom guidance ability and patience to get through such a terrible happening. We as humans always ask why but I guarantee you she will be a special special lady or little lady I should say to someone in her lifetime! Everyone is born for a reason maybe even for you. If I had the money I would donate but I am below poverty level as it is but I will pray very hard for you and your precious baby and your family God listens and prayer does work God bless that sweet baby and your family!
