It’s best to start at the beginning, with the beautiful wedding of Carrie and Brad on June 21st, 2014, the summer solstice. All who were present on this day were witness to the joy of two beautiful souls coming together. For many, having children is a natural next step and Carrie and Brad knew from the beginning that they wanted to have a family.
Carrie is a third-grade teacher, and has showered her students with love, warmth, and understanding. Brad is a project manager and can fix and make anything, including beautiful renovations on their home.
After trying to have a baby naturally for four years, Carrie and Brad decided to do their first round of IVF. With one round of egg retrieval, the doctors were able to get four good frozen embryos. Their first transfer resulted in a miscarriage at six weeks when no heartbeat was detected.
Anyone who has been through IVF or knows someone who has, understands the requirements of shots and hormones in a highly regulated medical environment. It is emotionally and physically taxing.
The second round of IVF resulted in Carrie becoming pregnant. At 31 weeks, Carrie found out that she had a rare gestational liver disease called cholestasis. After much consulting with the doctors, it was decided that Carrie and the baby would be safe until induction at 35 weeks.
On Thursday, May 16th, Carrie and Brad received the devastating news that their daughter, Clementine Hauskens, had passed away in utero. Carrie had a stillbirth on Friday, May 17th. She and Brad held their beautiful, perfect daughter Clementine for the first and last time.
Carrie and Brad have frozen embryos but due to the risk of cholestasis, Carrie will not get pregnant again.
Let’s come together and raise money for Carrie and Brad Hauskens to find a surrogate to house beautiful baby Hauskens. This couple has been through more than most of us can imagine, and they are ready to welcome a baby into their happy home.
