Andrew Rheintgen/ AR Strong #17
Andy started out at Vernon Hills Police Department as a Community Service Officer in 1999 before becoming a Sworn Police Officer in 2000 and has been our brother in blue for 16 years.
Up until mid-October 2015, Andy was a healthy active 40-year-old husband and father. What started out as a cough that would not go away quickly turned into a diagnosis of Esophageal Cancer that aggressively spread to his Bones, Lungs, Sternum and Lymph Nodes according to his Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan.
Andy’s current treatment consists of Chemotherapy through a port followed by 6 pills per/day. This is repeated every 21 days. As far as his prognosis; Andy’s Doctors have stated that his Cancer is treatable but not curable. However, Andy, Susan, and Emily have faith and are determined to fight.
Andy is a faithful husband to his wife Susan, a dedicated and loving father to their 6-year-old daughter Emily. With Andy currently being on medical leave, Susan continues to work and care for her family.
The financial, physical and emotional burdens that have and will continue to be placed on Andy & Susan could be minimized with your generous help. As hard as it may be for the Rheingten’s to ask for help, they know they have a long road ahead and are thinking of Emily’s future. Which is why we are asking you for help on their behalf.
