Please Join CWA Local 3204 as we raise money for our Brother J.C. Smith.
Our Brother JC Smith, CWA Staff Rep in District 3, was let go Friday December 19 when his Disability entitlement expired. As he had less than five years of seniority, the staff contract entitled him to only six months of disability time. To ensure that there was not any kind of precedent set and due to “liability” reasons, CWA would not allow him to take a unpaid leave or vacation.
On December 19, 2015, Brother Smith was in the Intensive Care Unit, heavily medicated, and unable to speak. He was in ICU from November 29th until after the first of the year. He is currently still in the hospital undergoing rehabilitation.
JC's wife had to quit her job in order to care for him, so they will have no income coming in until and if his wife can sign him up for Social Security.
Every day their medical bills are growing and they have very little coming in to sustain them.
