On Saturday the 9th November Wallabi point NSW was threatened by a severe bushfire. If it wasn't for the brave efforts of the RFS our beautiful little coastal town would not be here today as well as many other communities that have been saved across NSW we are so grateful and thankful to the RFS.

Local wallabi point legends Andy& Deb starred in The Block 2019 and on Saturday 9th November same day as the fires hit wallabi The Block went to Action in Melbourne VIC. What Deb&Andy brought to The Block is the same thing they bring to their Family, community and career lots of Love, Respect, Pride, Honestly and humour making their time on the block a huge success and wallabi point along with the rest of the nation watching are stoked !

I own wallabi point coastal café a small café located in the heart of wallabi point. I do my best to create a space here at the cafe where people can come and relax and connect as a community.

After the weekend we had here and seeing our community struggle then pull together to help each other and surrounding suburbs fight the fire and get back on our feet I opened the cafe after being closed for two days. The whole community came and helped out and came together reunited. It was amazing. Just like everyone else I love our community. I thought of putting something in the café to symbolize the hardship and the bond of our communities to remind us our awesome we are and to also ground us as what we have here in Australia is special and it should be cared for and respected.
As I thought this this morning Deb announced one of the artworks "Gaagal" in the block that Andy &Deb displayed in their block apartment is now for sale and apart of the proceeds from selling the artwork will go to the local rfs.
The artwork is a stunning aboriginal piece and represents everything our communities mean to us.

Melissa Greenwood and Lauren Jarrett, the talented Indigenous artists behind these pieces, are offering this amazing original artwork exclusively to the Block Shop. 20 percent of the profits are going to the Rural Fire Service! Melissa lives in the Nambucca Valley only 1 1/2 hours away from Deb & Andy, where it’s been a devastating weekend for the entire mid-north coast community. “We all feel strong ties to each other in the community,” said Melissa and she felt there was no other choice but to give the proceeds of the artwork to the Rural Fire Service (RFS). "It’s the perfect choice, so fitting.” "Some of my family have been evacuated but everyone is safe and we have the RFS to thank for that." “I'm thinking of everyone in the communities under threat and I really hope the Wallabi Point community and Deb & Andy's home is okay," said Melissa.

Anthony Clark, Director of Corporate Communications at RFS said "we will ensure the funds are donated to brigades in the Wallabi Point area." "While our brigades have access to resources and firefighting equipment, donations assist with training, additional equipment and the delivery of activities that help the community." "It will be a great ‘thank you’ to brigades who have been working so hard to protect their local communities over the last few days, during very difficult and dangerous conditions," said Anthony. Andy $ Debs home has been under threat over the weekend from the fire raging around Wallabi Point. Deb currently away in Melbourne for the auctions says "we are thinking of everyone at home. Hoping you are all safe. Thank you to the fire services who are absolutely incredible." Deb tells Insider Style.

Melissa Greenwood and Lauren Jarrett description and meaning of the artwork is below,

GAAGAL means ocean in Gumbaynggirr. Mum and I are Gumbaynggirr custodians and the Ocean is our totem.

The painting was inspired by Deb and Andy and celebrates both our connection to water as neighbouring nations - Being Birapi and Gumbaynggirr peoples of the east coast of NSW. We just want to express our heartfelt appreciation to both Deb and Andy for giving us the opportunity to showcase our beautiful culture on Australia's best TV show, The Block.

We created the symbol in the middle which represents a meeting place where people come together and connect.

The circles around the outside are neighbouring tribes, friends and family journey along the pathways (lines) and meet in the middle to share stories, culture, food and celebrations.
After owning the café for a year now we have slowing been putting some artwork around that represent the passion and friendship within our community. Having an artwork like GAAGAL within the shop not only would represent our community and its connection but also represent the strength to pull together as one as well as celebrate deb and andys achievements .

We recently began to raise funds to purchase the original GAAGAL artwork but as it is such a amazing piece it was sold within a couple days.
Though not long after Melissa and Lauren reached out to Wallabi point coastal café and it goes as follows ….

Mum and I are absolutely honored and touched by this campaign that we stumbled upon on the internet and are so sad to hear it sold so quick and you guys missed out, if only we had of known.
If you would like to keep the campaign going we are more then happy to create you another piece and donate another  to the RFS, our hearts are breaking for your community and ours and especially yours as its been so tragic there, we just love that your cafe and community were all getting behind you and feel its so fitting to have to have your own GAAGAL in deb and Andys town as it was dedicated to them.
We can change the painting up a bit so it's different and unique for you guys.

Warmest regards,

Melissa & Lauren
