Meet sweet Echo, our foster dog. She needs your help to fix her right arm so it doesn't have to be amputated. Our family has been fostering her for the past 2 months for the AZ Humane Society. We've been waiting for her bones to finish growing so she can have orthopedic surgery to make her arm straight and prevent further damage to her wrist. Oh... and to stop the pain too, of course. She has to take antinflammatories twice a day for pain & swelling.
Echo was found on the street, 9/20/15, lethargic, with puncture wounds to all her limbs, and a broken right arm which healed at an angle. The AZ Humane Society's awesome EAMTs (Emergency Animal Medical Technicians) picked her up and brought her back to their Second Chance Hospital. Not such a good start for a 6 month old puppy!!
She's now 9 months and has learned SO much about being a pet. She will be a fantastic addition to someone's family. She is very playful and energetic so having a bum arm & constant pain isn't going so well for her.
The major orthopedic surgery she needs to straighten her arm has been discounted to $4000 by Dr Linney at PHX Veterinary (formerly Sonora Veterinary Specialists.) He specializes in this kind of stuff so Echo will be in good hands. If she has the surgery she will then need a subsequent treatment to improve her wrist from the damage that has occured from walking with a crooked arm. It's called Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, which will be $900. Isn't it CRAZY how much all this costs?!
Why are we going to all this trouble for a dog you ask? Because it's what we do. This sweet puppy deserves to have a shot at a long, healthy life. She is SO young and this is her only chance to avoid progressivly worsening arthritis in a few years from running around with one front leg.
If enough people chip in she will have a shot at having a normal, pain-free life. Will you help her?
