RSSDA Students at U of M

Nearly 250 Nigerian students are studying at 14 Canadian universities on a scholarship from a government-funded agency in Nigeria called the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency.

The agency promised to pay their tuition and provide a $1,100 monthly living allowance.

However,

They haven't received that allowance for 11 months, and much of their tuition fee payment has also been delayed.

The agency and the government that funds the program have left the students to fend for themselves.

Many of these students are struggling and having difficulty making ends meet. How can we expect our fellow students to focus on exams when they have to worry about from where they will find their next meal?

This is unjust. This is unfair. This is not their fault.
This could happen to anyone.

About 50 students sponsored by the agency are currently enrolled at the U of M.

Students have been given 30 days to pay tuition.

On average, international students pay $7,000 to $11,000 tuition per term for a full load of classes, much more than Canadian students pay.

Let's help our fellow students, our friends.

If you can spare $1 , $5,  or $10, please do! Every dollar counts!
