Asante Classroom - ARCHITEACH

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Asante Classroom - Building with Earth Workshop.  

ARCHITEACH, in collaboration with Nka Foundation, will host a workshop to design and build a prototype classroom in the Abetenim Arts Village in Ghana.  The arts village is designed as a learning center to provide spaces for creative people from the region and other countries to live, work, learn and create.  

The workshop will provide an interactive learning opportunity for both the local community and our volunteers.   By taking an asset-based approach to community development our focus is to bridge the gap between responsive design and traditonal local building methods. 

All donations will be used to fund the construction of the Asante Classroom. Such needs and costs include material for formwork, foundation, roofing, wall construction, landscaping, material assembly and local labor.  One of the more unique aspects of our project includes the layout and making of indiviudal bricks.   To make this possible we are looking to purchase a brick press that can then be given to the community for their use in building other structures.

ARCHITEACH was formed by four friends who share a strong desire to explore and experience different cultures.  Through our own travels, we have come to enjoy learning about local cultural values and have almost naturally developed an appreciation for the vernacular which is established in a community by cultural, regional and economic influences.
