Appeal for aid

Dear Potential Donor,

Greetings! My name is John A. Davies, owner of John Arthur Davies SPC, a company specializing in the fine art of landscape and garden design.

I’m launching this appeal for donations to (a) relieve my workers who are suffering as a direct consequence of unpaid fees to us for work we’ve already delivered - more than half a million US dollars - and (b) cover necessary Court and Legal fees to reduce our losses.

Present Situation
A double-whammy of unpaid invoices and a prolonged absence of landscape design contracts, despite efforts to reverse the situation, have brought my firm to a point where it cannot remain operational in Bahrain for much longer.  I really must honour my obligations to my loyal and dedicated staff who have served me with love and commitment for more than 25 years.

Background
This firm can trace its history to what would become the Royal Exotic Nursery, Chelsea, London, started by Joseph Knight in 1808. A flavour of our services is shown in the image below, which inspired our mission statement, “to please the eye, gladden the heart and nourish the soul.” Further information can be found at: www.johnadavieslandscapes.com.  Though the company is registered as a commercial enterprise, it has operated more like a charity in so far as it is motivated by Love rather than Profit.

Should you know of anyone who may be interested in taking over the company, which has an excellent reputation (acknowledged by Bahrain’s Prime Minister, for example), I would be most pleased to hear from them.

There would be minimal cost for the company itself, to the right person. I should just like to see it continue so that my many years of committed service will not have been in vain and the sentimental link with Joseph Knight will be maintained. Over the years I have experienced several economic downturns, and I sense that the current chapter is coming to a close; I feel that an individual with business sagacity and the wherewithal to take the company forward would be well rewarded, not only in Bahrain but on a regional and global basis as well.

Philosophical Spiritual Aspect
You may notice a philosophical or spiritual aspect to my nature which may be described as an inner presence, which has sought expression through the design and creation of gardens. I feel very much in its service, in its Light.

Candle for the Light
Perhaps I could also represent the Light by developing my writing, in combination with garden design, to become a candle for spreading its radiance. Such possibility was revealed to me by Christian Science healer Mrs Doris Henty, whose pavement garden is shown in the accompanying photographs.  To be in her presence was to be bathed in a friendly, comforting radiance, reflected in the household staff, filling her home and radiating beyond. In combination with her pavement garden, the Light shone like a beacon.
