My name is Anthony Catalano.I am a currently a Life Scout with Troop 86 in Bloomingdale, NJ. I have been in scouting for 10 years. I am now working on my Eagle Rank and one of the requirements is an Eagle Scout Project. I have been planning this project for over a year and recently received approval to begin. I am seeking donations to complete my Eagle Project.
To earn the rank of Eagle, I must plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project helpful to the community. For my Eagle Scout Project, I have chosen to build a fire pit for flag retirement ceremonies for the Borough of Bloomingdale and place a permanent outdoor bin to collect deteriorated American service flags. It will be located in the area across from our Bloomingdale Community Gardens along the river. The worn flags would be given a proper send off in this specially constructed ceremonial fire pit. Future flag retirement events can be organized through the town by the local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or local Veteran posts. The flag drop bin will be available to any community member that has a worn flag that can no longer be flown. My intention is to start building this area sometime in May or June of 2019, so that it will be ready for flag day (June 14th). That way, we can have a ceremony on or around that date.
What I currently need is enough funds to:
Purchase the fire pit.
Purchase the materials needed for the wall behind the fire pit (wall blocks)
Purchase of additional materials for the fire pit pad.
The approximate total cost of the project materials is $2000 which I will hope to raise by May 6thth 2019.
Any financial assistance you can offer to help me achieve my goal of completing this project will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and in the unlikely event any funds remain after the project is finished, they will go directly to the recipient of the project or back to our Troop 86. I will have a program made at the initial Flag Retirement Ceremony and a list of donors will be included in the program as well as on the Borough of Bloomingdale website after completion.
