The town criers of the Annapolis Valley: Lloyd Smith of Windsor; Peter Davies of Annapolis Royal; and Gary Long of Canning & Berwick have a very important task at hand. We believe in the beauty and culture of the Annapolis Valley. And we want to promote where we live to the world.
We are organizing an international town crier competition that will take place in September of 2017 as part of the celebrations of Canada's 150th anniversary. Some of the top town criers from such countries as: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Bermuda, Ireland, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany will vie for one of the 25 positions to compete here.
The funds raised will be used to help put on a world class event, to show case our Annapolis Valley to the world. We will visit farm markets, schools and communities from Windsor to Annapolis Royal, as well as the most iconic historic sites in the Valley - Grand Pre National Historic Site and UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Habitation National Historic Site in Port Royal and Fort Anne National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal. It will be an opportunity for the criers of the world to meet the people of the Annapolis Valley and for the people of the Valley to mix and mingle with the colourful and jovial community representatives of the world.
The Valley town criers would be ever so grateful for the assistance of the people of the Annapolis Valley, and the world beyond, to ensure that this colourful and boisterous group of men and women have the opportunity to visit the best place in the world to be.
