Waste Oil Blast Furnace/ Kiln

Donation protected
My name is Kurt Pattison and I teach Advanced Physics and Materials Sciences at a small charter school.

We are Animas High School from Durango Colorado.  We are a project based learning school with dreams and goals that often exceed our budgets.  We raise as much money from the community as we can every year but we need just a little bit more.

The recycled oil blast furnace project is desinged to incorporate every grade level and multiple disciplines and will be used by multiple classes.  Once my students have successfully completed the materials science studies required for fabrication and learned the skills of welding, masonry and project design we will build this ourselves!

The energy stored in used fry oil and the waste oil from your car is enough to introduce metallurgy and ceramics to the school.  The students will be introduced to Raku pottery and lost wax casting.  Engineering students will develop and test alloys and sand cast parts for their own projects.  We will also adapt the design for a waste oil water heater and evaluate the efficiency and cleanliness of this alternative fuel source.

Once the project is built students will be able to utilize waste oil for years to come.  I know that the first recycled aluminum can castings will change the way we think about our resources and art!

Your donations will be much appreciated by the 300 young adults that will have access to this resource and I will be eternally greatful for the oohs, ahhs and smiles when students projects come together.

Thank you for everything on behalf of our future engineers and artists!
