Amiya Jones' Urban Garden Project

Hello, 

My name is Amiya Jones, and I'm a senior at Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a senior, we all have to complete a Capstone Project that consists of us choosing an issue, and then completing a project to combat it. The issue that I decided upon was the issue of low accessibility to healthy foods in low income communities. In order to combat this, I am deciding to create an urban garden at my school that will not only grow healthy foods like spinach, kale, cucumbers, herbs, but will also serve an artistic purpose. I want this area to be a healthy environment and also  one of creative beauty. Once I begin building and growing my garden, I hope to sell the foods back into the communities, so that the families facing food deserts, have healthy food options.
