Alzheimer’s - Help for my dad.



Hello,

My name is Jeanne Lelong, I am a 30 years old French woman living in Stockholm, Sweden. My brother Pierre is 32 years old and lives in Saint Nazaire, France.

In May 2017, our dad was diagnosed with an advanced Alzheimer’s and our world fell apart.

Our dad lived alone and did not have a big social life so no one realised what was happening. We saw something wasn’t right a while before being diagnosed but we never imagine the outcome. Our dad is very important to us and we would do anything for him. We are his only family ( or at least the ones who care) so Pierre and I have now decided to ask for help.

Expenses that occurred during this last year and half required adding to our debt. We found out that the bank gave a 7000 euros loan to our dad in February 2017 without asking any questions. Because of the illness, our dad has no memory of what he did with this loan, what we know is that he did not have it in May 2017. There is simply no trace of it.

We managed to place him in a close unit for people with dementia, however as you may know, they are very expensive and his pension doesn’t cover everything. We have requested help from the governement but they denied us as they think his pension is high enough to cover the expenses.

To talk a little about him. His name is Patrice, he is 72 years old and was born in Normandy, France. He worked all his life for the French press and loved his job very much, he used to also writes beautiful poems. He is a very intelligent and cultivated man. Always on the move for a new adventure. He loves art and classical music.

It is very difficult for us to see him like this. The time we spend with him is very precious as we know it won’t last.

Our dad doesn’t know anything about this. In fact, we have taken the decision last year to not tell him about his illness. He knows he is sick but he doesn’t know it is Alzheimer’s. He is extremely fragile emotionally and we want to preserve him from additional pain.
