A short-term GoFundMe for pre-sales of my entire music catalog

Hi – Troy Dillinger here –

I want your help getting my entire 30-plus-year music catalog out in time for the holidays! I’m not asking for donations, just that you buy in advance to help finance the process of mastering, registering and distributing about 10 titles that span my entire career. In return, you’ll get to enjoy the music I’ve made these last decades and help me share it with the world. If you’re feeling more generous there are additional perks too…

Not everyone knows me as a musician, because I only do 5-10 dates a year now, mostly for charity events. Chances are that you know me as the host of Austin Variety Show, or as a filmmaker, or as the founder of Save Austin Music, or the guy who created Austin Swim, or maybe I did some design or advertising & marketing work for you, or chances are that we dated – but maybe you know me from my 30-plus year career as an Austin musician.

I’ve had the great joy of entertaining millions of people all over the globe since I started playing in Austin clubs like Steamboat, Hole in the Wall, and the Back Room in 1983. In the time since, I’ve gotten to meet and play with all my heroes, and I’ve had the great fortune to work with some of the most talented and amazing people in the business.

When the music business crashed 15 years ago, I shifted my focus and became a filmmaker. I’m embarrassed to say that despite over 30 years as a recording and touring musician, I currently only have one title available online, and even though it’s an award-winning concept album, it’s experimental and not in the genre I’m most associated with – rock ‘n’ roll.

At times I feel like I transitioned away from my music career because of tough times - without leaving a complete archive to share with the world, and I feel as if I’ve got some loose ends to tie up. So I decided that for the 10 year anniversary of my most recent release, I should make my entire catalog of recordings available online – in part for those who helped me create my career, as well as for those who may become interested in my contribution to Austin’s musical landscape. BTW, I don’t consider myself a key player in Austin’s music history, but I’m part of it, and I write some pretty good songs…

I wanted to make my catalog available for everyone who’s buying music with their iTunes gift cards this holiday season, so I want to ask for your help funding the project, basically to pre-order my music, so I can share it with the world. It’s a pretty quick and gratifying process if you want to help, I’m basically re-mastering and registering the catalog of my recordings for online distribution.

I’ve got archives starting from the 80s and my years with BAND FROM HELL, going into the 90s with Del Dragons, and into the 2000s as a solo artist. I’ll be releasing about 100 songs, both live & studio recordings, featuring a lot of unreleased material, and updating digitally remastered releases of the award-winning “Southern Jumbo” and “Dirty & Harry” records – and two never released recordings featuring Austin legend Stephen Bruton on guitar – including one of his very first projects as a producer.

My dear friend Chet Himes is doing the remastering of my entire catalogue to have it ready in one week, so it’s in the distribution channels in time for Christmas. You’re no doubt familiar with his work, which includes Christopher Cross“Sailing” and the Austin City Limits DVD series, as well as hundreds of Austin legends.

So I need your help to pay Chet for mastering, and to cover the delivery of the recordings, which require about $250 per title to master and then distribute digitally.

This GoFundMe campaign isn’t a plea for a handout, it’s a straight-up advance sales drive. I’ll have everything available for you in just weeks, and your purchase will help make my catalogue available to the entire world.

Again, I’m only running the campaign for ONE WEEK because I want to have the material available by the holidays.

Again, I’m only running this campaign for half of December, so please get in on it right away and please help spread the word. I thank you once again for supporting my creativity and my life’s purpose, and I hope that my music makes your life a little more fun and a little more enjoyable.

With all my gratitude,

--- Troy
