Allentown Community Parklet

We are raising funds to build the empty lot next to Paisano's Pizza on Warrington Avenue into a public parklet, incorporating both greenspace and art to have a beautiful environment for community members to gather.
My husband and I own our home in Allentown and love our neighborhood. Volunteering at the Brashear Association with the after-school program has really brought me closer to the community and the kids and people living in it. We would like to give back to the neighborhood by providing a beautiful space for community members to gather and enjoy the outdoors. Mark Paisano has graciously allowed us to re-design his empty lot on the Warrington Avenue to create a new public space for the public to use.
All funds raised will be for the materials, as my husband and I are donating our time to design and build the structures and landscape.
Our initial goal of $5,000 will get us to a point where we can clean and level and begin building out the space. We plan on having a community meeting later this summer to discuss the layout and structures that will go inside. The Hilltop Alliance will also match up to $1000 towards the project!
This project is in association with the Hilltop Alliance's "Industry and Industry" program. "Industry on Industry" is a co-location space for artists and makers in Allentown, who receive substantially discounted rent in exchange for completing a public art project along the E. Warrington Avenue corridor. The program just started in spring 2016. Hilltop Alliance is a collaborative organization comprised of community-based organizations from the following South Pittsburgh neighborhoods: Allentown, Beltzhoover, Carrick, Knoxville, Mount Washington, Mount Oliver City, South Side Slopes, and Saint Clair, as well as Mount Oliver Borough. Our mission is to preserve and create assets in the Hilltop community through collaboration and coordination of resources.
