Alis Refugee Project

In the spring of 2018 I got the opportunity to work in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon as a part of the grassroots outreach project, Crossing Lines. While there I got to know the people, the workers and the volunteers that work year round to raise the quality of life at the refugee settlements of eastern Lebanon.

As a volunteer and photographer, starting in May 2019, I will be joining Crossing Lines again to continue the work started in 2018. I will also be doing a small side project that will run along the daily activities.

In this project, I want set up a small portable studio where I will record the stories of the refugees and the amazing individuals that work year round to maintain a decent quality of life in these settlements.
I am hoping that this work will create more understanding between the western world and the middle east. And it will also shed more light on the current situation of these forgotten settlements so that the people will know that they are not forgotten.

In the early 90s, me and my family fled from the war and torture of Iraq to then spend years living in a Rafha refugee camp back. Being a former refugee, these experiences makes it possible for me to connect with the current refugees in a very unique and personal way.
