Afghani Army interpreter in Austin

Donation protected

As many of you know I bought an old house and am fixing it up and hope to move in soon.
I found out yesterday that one of the guys working on my house is a refugee here from Afghanistan. He was a member of the Afghani army and an interpreter for US forces, but had had to flee with his wife and 2 small children after his family was threatened. They arrived last month on a special visa and have very little. (Government housing and food stamps)

I too arrived in this country as an immigrant with not very much, and we thrived here thanks to the generosity of so many. I would like to pay that kindness forward. I asked his wife to put together a list of things that she needs. If you think you can help with any of the following please let me know. I also hope to give her a card for HEB or Wal-Mart/Target so she can get some things herself. Also if any of you know any resources or community centers for people learning english or refugees please let me know. I know his wife is exceedingly lonely as she speaks Pashto and very little english and doesn't drive.
Thank you for helping me help them, and giving me the opportunity to show them what Americans are really all about.
