I will be returning to Cité Soleil, Haiti in July and am looking for your support!
As you may (or may not) know I am proud to count myself amoung one of the Directors of the Canadian-based charity Helping Haiti. Helping Haiti’s mission is to provide the people of Cité Soleil, with sustainable, community-driven, development programs that focus on increasing the health, safety and well-being of the community.
My main focus this trip will be working with our Helping Haiti Clinic staff and offering first aid and CPR programs to the general population.
I am looking for support for my annual trip to Haiti. All money raised will go towards supporting the cost of my trip.
About Haiti and Cité Soleil
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living under the poverty line and 54% in abject poverty. The children of Haiti have the highest disease and death rate of all children in the Western Hemisphere.
The area encompassed by Cité Soleil is approximately 20 sq. kilometres. Its nearly 250,000 citizens all live in poverty – most in abject poverty.
About Helping Haiti
Helping Haiti’s mission is to provide the people of Cité Soleil, with sustainable, community-driven, development programs that focus on increasing the health, safety and well-being of the community.
Our mission is realized through several projects and programs, all centred around Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, one of the poorest communities in the western hemisphere. While we are physically in Cité Soleil, we walk the streets – through the good, the bad and even through the worse… meeting the citizens of Cité Soleil and getting to know them on a personal level. This approach allows us to forge ever-lasting trust and relationships with the people we’re helping.
Helping Haiti is comprised of a volunteer Board of Directors and unlike traditional larger NGOs and charities; we work one-on-one with the very people receiving your assistance. We have no staff and our Board Members and volunteers are responsible for the cost of their travel or living expenses while in the field, allowing donations to be delivered directly to the front line.
