Mobile Showers For The Needy

Being homeless stinks!
We don’t mean just the situation, which it does…but we also mean that it’s hard to keep clean without access to running water, soap, towels, and a safe place to change clothes. In Stanislaus County, there are 2000 plus people who call the streets home and there are only two shelters, both on the east side of Modesto. The situation is beyond desperate if you find yourself on foot and on the wrong side of town! Many of those displaced are women, children, and whole families who are trying to survive. It is nearly impossible to get a job interview or attend school without the ability to get clean. So the cycle of poverty and drop-outs continue. We want to restore dignity and self-worth and give them hope and help out of their situation. But we need your help to make our dream a reality.
We are www.churchintheparkmodesto.org We are a group of dedicated volunteers who bring church to the park every Sunday. We bring food, clothes, reading glasses, dog food, children’s church, hygiene packs, and haircuts, but most importantly the love of Jesus to 300 or more people each and every week. Rain or shine, the tents go up! And we have been blessed. But we have a bigger dream..one that includes a hand up out of the desperation.
This is where our shower bus comes in. We saw an additional need and we are finding a way to fill it. Because it’s an awesome thing to bring love and worship to the needy every Sunday, but when we pack up our trucks and leave the park, the needs don’t stop. The kids still don’t fit in at school, job opportunities still won’t be found, and the struggle will still continue.
Our dream is to bring showers (including clean underwear and socks) to the people who need them most, at least four days a week, to all four corners of our city. We want to bring them hope…Cleansing Hope Shower Shuttle.
Our donated bus is amazing….we even have a handicapped lift for those in wheelchairs! We have a fantastic group of builders who have donated time and talent to transform our vehicle into two mobile showers. We are working on gathering the needed supplies to offer up to 120 showers a week which will also include a basic hygiene pack. But building supplies are expensive, as are insurance and operational costs. Our set goal of $35,000 will cover building costs and first year of operations. We are a tiny ministry that relies completely on donations.
