Hurricane Harvey Relief

Donation protected
Sequel Data Systems, Inc. owns a Mobile Data Center that we use for marketing events.  We are going to convert it into a free internet cafe for people and set it up for people to use in the damaged areas from Hurricane Harvey.  Below is an update on our plan:

Updated 9/1/2017 at 2:30 pm.

As you can imagine, things change very rapidly with a disaster of this scale.  After confirming with folks from the City of Houston on Wednesday to bring our truck to the convention center, we were told on Thursday there was no more room for us.  I have spent the last 24 hours locating a new spot.  We spoke to DPS, the City of Victoria, and finally a church in Rockport.  We decided to head to Rockport.  The area we are heading to is very bad off. They still have no power and are facing a long road to clean up.  About an hour after confirming our spot, I recived a call from the Red Cross(they got our information from DPS) asking if they can use the truck.   I told them we are heading out tomorrow to Rockport, but we would see if we can assist them in other ways. So, we are off to Rockport tomorrow AM.  There are no hotels in the area, and we are staying in RV's and the Sequel Truck.

Once we get down to Rockport, I will update this further with what they are facing.

I wanted to send out an update and thank you for the all of the support so far.  In just over 60 hours, my email went from idea to a concrete plan.  I wasn’t quite sure where we would take the truck to setup.  We figured it would be outside of a shelter or something similar.  My email made it around to quite a few folks, and I was contacted by the City of Houston this morning.  They have asked me to bring the truck to the Houston Convention Center and set up there.  They also said to be ready to move it to other locations around the city, but want us to start there.  We are going to have 30 workstations set out for people to use.  Our plan is for people to access insurance information, FEMA information, and make contact with family.  We will provide printers if they need to print out documents.  As part of this effort, we would like to be able to pass out donated items.  We are going to put out collection boxes at our customer locations for those.  I was just told that there are thousands of people in the convention center that are displaced.

I have had many people reach out and ask what they can do to help.  I have a couple of things I can ask for.  Things are moving so fast, we haven’t even had time to plan out people being there.  We have 3 employees that live in Houston, and will be assisting.  I will be working on a schedule that we could track online for volunteers if you want to help.  We have also setup up a GoFundme page to raise money.  All of the money raised is going straight to food/water/supplies for victims.  We have some customers that want to help us with goods, but are in remote regions where we can’t collect the goods easily.  With the money donated, we will buy supplies on their behalf and distribute while in Houston.  We will be filling the truck up with supplies that we collect and taking it down.

We are heading out Saturday morning with the truck and equipment/supplies.  I will keep you posted as things continue to develop.  Thank you again for all of the support with this effort.

Thanks,
