My name is LaVonnda McCabe, and I am the director of the Wichita United Basketball Club (WUBC), a non-profit equal opportunity sports program aimed at providing and promoting an affordable, organized, safe and structured environment for children who may not have an opportunity to participate in other programs. The goal of WUBC is to bring every ethnic, educational, and economically diverse community together using the game of basketball. This will be accomplished by teaching, encouraging and implementing the fundamentals of the game through teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
This organization has been in existence since 2013. We have serviced children from kindergarten through eighth grade. Last summer we hosted our first summer session which ran from May through August and consisted of 18 teams allowing 198 children to participate. This was an awesome start! The Wichita United Basketball Club is currently working in the Bill Rhodes Gymnasium. However, the floors (two courts) need desperately to be resurfaced.
The WUBC is reaching out for help to make this happen. The Bill Rhodes gym is used by 12 other elementary schools to practice in once or twice a week in addition to regularly scheduled games on Saturdays for all participants. This facility plays a major role in allowing the WUBC program to successfully exist. Please consider donating to the resurfacing project in order to support not only this program, but young children in the Wichita community. Your donation will not only help give children an opportunity they might otherwise miss, it is also tax deductible.
Thank you so much!
