A Child's Fight

Hello everyone my name is Simone and this beautiful little girl is my seven year old daughter Mateyah. My daughter Mateyah suffers from a rare disease that is cancerous called vocal papillomas. There is no cure for this disease and it can be fatal. Depending if you have an aggressive form or non aggressive type of this disease and unfortunately for us Mateyah has the Aggressive form. The doctors had hoped by now the disease would have slowed down but unfortunately for us it is has gotten worse! Mateyah every four weeks has to go to either Beaumont or Children's Hospital Of Michigan to have surgery to remove the papillomas off of her vocal chord. If she does not have them removed they will block her airway causing her to die. In January the disease took over her airways and she was days away from dying her oxygen level was under 50% and her airway was 90% blocked it was like she was breathing through a straw. After emergency surgery which her Dr. thought she would not survive she was placed in ICU for several days and to the Dr's suprise she survived. ❤ Mateyah last surgery was on 3/22/17 and I was informed by the Dr. that it is getting worse and he would now like to start her on chemotherapy treatments beginning this week. This news was devastating to my husband and myself. Due to her illness Mateyah has only been able to attend school six days since her surgery in January and I am now fighting the school district to provide her with a student teacher who will come to our house and assist her with her schoolwork. Her Dr. Thothem is the best ENT doctor in the midwest. I have taken my daughter to U of M Mott's Children's Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion and they all refer me back to Dr. Thothem because eventhough there is no cure for this disease he is the best. I am asking for help because I was in a car accident on 3/20/17 and I am in desperate need of transportation help as well as many of the expenses my husband and I have occured because of the numerous Dr's visits as well as surgeries and lastly a tutor who can work with her extensively to help her get caught up in school because she is so far behind. Since the accident I have been paying a transportation service to drive us to all her appointments and at $50 there and back and depending on the location of the appointment it can actually be more everytime it becomes very expensive and he has been very generous because of my situation he doesn't charge me more than that. It was really hard for me to ask for help because my husband and I have so much pride and we have truly been struggling to do it all by ourselves but I have to be honest it has now become very hard and it is about what is best for her. We are a two income family household and at this time my husband is the only one working Full-time and now they have recently cut his hours so it has become a real struggle for our family. I would Love to return to work Full-time but with the amount of days she misses from school and the fact I have to monitor her breathing at all times makes it extremely hard and at night is usually the worse because she breathes with a whimper and you have to watch her carefully because she will start coughing really bad and you hope a drink of water will stop the coughing and sometimes that does work or if she is wheezing with the cough you have to give her a breathing treatment which wakes her up and me as well. I am asking to please help me get my daughter to chemotherapy as well as her other appointments and offset these mounting finances we are occurring as a result of her illness because we really need and appreciate all help.
