A Home for a Nicaraguan Family

Donation protected
Help me build a home for Melvin and his family, an honest and hard working family in Nicaragua.

Melvin lives in El Crucero, a humble community in the outskirts of Managua, the capital.  El Crucero is known for its cold temperatures and often inhospitable terrain, as it seats on a ridge that weathers volcanic fumes from the Masaya Volcano.

Melvin is a gardener and earns US$8 per day.  He has a family of four to support, that includes his wife Meyling and their four kids: Rosa Idalia (13), Axel Josue (11), Helena Gabriela (9) and Melvin de Jesus (4). I visited them in November and toured their humble home. I was shocked to see the lack of basic necessities.

The Sanchez family lives in precarious conditions, vulnerable to the weather and the conditions of the area. Their home is small, consisting of only two rooms, walls made of old roof materials - zinc and lead sheets,  with a DAMP and BARE floor.  Here are some photos from my visit.

My dream is to be able to build a home that would offer better shelter and safer conditions for the Sanchez family. We  access to buying the materials and accessing the labor required to build a similar home such as this one below:

Our approximate budget is U$7,500 and I am committed to matching the highest contribution, which so far has been $500. (THANK YOU!)

In three months, we have been able to raise $4,000+ dollars. We are getting close to our goal! THANK YOU to everyone who's come forward with donations. I appreciate your generosity. I promise I will be reporting back and every dollar will be accounted for.  The goal is now to be able to complete the house in March 2019, as our budget has increased.

THE CHALLENGE is now to raise an additional $3,000. Our numbers increased in order to secure a better and more comfortable home (3 bedrooms instead of 2 for a family of six, with an indoor bath and more square footage).

THE GOOD NEWS! Building this home will only take THREE TO FOUR WEEKS to complete. It will be a home with three bedrooms, RUNNING WATER, A BATHROOM and KITCHEN with proper PLUMBING. Check on the UPDATES page to see the building estimate and actual quote for the project.

Please share this story and help me raise money for the Sanchez. BEFORE we kick off the construction, we need to at least be in the $6,000-$7,000 collection range.

I have family in Nicaragua and my parents, both retired, are very involved with the cause, helping me source the right builders and secure the best prices for the construction materials and the team needed to make this happen.

As a realtor, I am in the business of finding people their home, it is now my dream to gift the Sanchez family a home, and I would love to count on your support.

This is a very special cause and a way for you to directly impact the needy - especially, given the tumultuous situation in Nicaragua.

Thank you in advance for your help and thoughtfulness!

Every year, when our family visits Nicaragua, we gather in the Crucero community church to share some fun, break a piñata and bring small gifts to the children in the community.  This year I need your help to make a bigger impact.

Estimados amigos y conocidos,

Sinceramente,
