A.H.O.P. Building Fund

Tax deductible
The Apostolic House of Prayer of M.V., Inc. is a small congregation located on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Since our beginning in 1978, we have continually provided church services to the  community and outreach support to needy residents of the island.

We first started prayer and church services at the home of our Pastor, Marcia J. Buckley. When the congregation grew from four to over twenty five, we moved to a church building on Pequot Avenue in Oak Bluffs which we rented from a larger church organization. However, in 2004 the building was sold and we were forced to leave. With limited funds, we had to return to our Pastor’s home for prayer meetings and worship services. Since then we have found temporary rental space at various places and have even held Sunday services in the local park. Neighbours that border the park have appreciated our being there and have even donated a bench to add to the folding chairs we bring for the services. Despite this, the Oak Bluffs parks commission recently ruled that we can no longer hold regular Sunday services in the park during the summer months.  Undaunted, we continue to move from place to place, praying that God will provide a permanent building for us to hold church services. We believe God and persevere nevertheless to do His will. We, for example, since 2004, have provided behavioral and spiritual counselling to inmates at the local jail, have offered information and counselling programs on HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and other areas, and have  offered food and clothing programs for struggling single mothers and low income families.

Because we have to frequently hold services at the Pastor’s house as well as other places, which are not on easily visible and accessible streets, it has become increasingly difficult for us to stabilize our church operations and let the public know where we are. This, of course, hinders our ability to spread the Word of Jesus Christ and to attract new congregants. With regular and rising expenses for rent, utilities and heat, we have only been able to save a small amount in our building fund to date (about $6,000). Because the island is small with land and buildings at premium prices, we are in need of your help to purchase a church building. Our building fund goal is $850,000—which is a long way from where we are now. But, we trust God and have come this far by faith. We realize it will take time to reach our goal, but we’re willing to persevere.  We are, therefore, asking the broader community for financial support in any amount that an individual or organization is willing to donate. We are a 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Your help will be greatly appreciated and we know that God will bless your support.

Thank you so much.
