A Family for Ross and Tanya

TANYA AND ROSS

This GoFundMe page is to help raise funds for Tanya and Ross Presta.  Tanya and Ross are long time Kamloops residents.  They have known each other since they were teenagers growing up in the area.  As a couple, they have been together for the last 18 years and have been trying to have a family for the last 13 years.  After three years of being unsuccessful with pregnancy they sought help from a fertility center.  They were told their infertility was unexplained. It was suggested that they try intrauterine insemination.  After many thousands of dollars spent on more than a dozen of these procedures all of which were unsuccessful, it was recommended that they try IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).  The first IVF was successful in pregnancy but unfortunately they miscarried near the end of the first trimester. This pregnancy was followed by a natural pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage in the first trimester.

BAYLIE

Then surprisingly a few months later they discovered they were pregnant again naturally.  This pregnancy progressed well and the baby was on schedule at every ultrasound. Baylie was born in October of 2012.  Unfortunately, she went into cardiac arrest when the doctors clamped the umbilical cord. Despite all resuscitation efforts, she passed away and her death was completely unexplained.  An hour or so later after she was pronounced dead, Baylie’s heart started beating and she started breathing. No one could explain what had happened except to say it was a miracle. Unfortunately, the miracle was short lived as the damage that had been done to her organs as a result of the lack of oxygen caused their sweet baby girl to have multiple organ failure and seizures so they had to make the decision to take her off of life support.  The devastation of the loss of their baby girl caused both of them to fall into a deep depression and both were diagnosed with PTSD. Tanya and Ross had to take time off work as they couldn’t deal with the stressors at work along with the stress that followed them after losing Baylie for a second time.

ISABELLA

After four years, Tanya and Ross finally had the strength and courage to try and conceive again.  Because of all the stress they continued to struggle with infertility and turned to IVF again. At this point in time, they had used up most of their savings already on their previous fertility treatments.  Fortunately, they were able to borrow money from their family to do another round of IVF. They were able to get pregnant on their first attempt but half way through the pregnancy an ultrasound showed some abnormalities.  At this point in time, it was recommended that they have an amniocentesis done to rule out chromosomal disorders.  In the third trimester they had one and again they were devastated beyond words when they learned their baby girl had Trisomy 18. Trisomy 18 means that the fetus is not compatible with life and it will eventually die either in utero, during labor or delivery or shortly thereafter.  Isabella was born September 8th, 2017.  She lived for two and a half days before she passed away from respiratory failure.  Tanya and Ross were again overwhelmed with the grief of losing another child. Both spiraled into a deep depression again feeling like they were never going to have the family they so desperately wanted.

MOVING FORWARD

It is coming up to a year after Isabella’s passing and they know that given their age they are limited on time to try to have a family.  They have exhausted all their savings, are unable to take on anymore debt, and their family has lent them all they are able to give. Tanya and Ross desperately want to try again and their only option is IVF.  The IVF procedure costs almost $20, 000. Medical insurance will cover the costs of the medications but they are still on the hook for the procedure part. We are trying to help them raise $10, 000 to put towards this procedure.  Any amount you are able to provide will be a step toward the Presta’s having one last chance to have a child of their very own to raise. Thank you to all who are able to help them out.
