A Camera for Abd Alkader Habak

Donation protected
My young Photographer/ Journalist friend has seen the worst and best of human nature. With his camera he captures the atrocities in Syria, heartbreaking images of the war torn land. I find him to be humble and views his work as so very important to share with the world the truth. You may know him from the pictures and video of him rescuing children during the massive bus bombing. He is different than many reporters there because it is his home and the Syrian people are his people, his heart is with everyone there that he photographs, meets and rescues. His need is direct and simple, the camera he used to show the world the truth was broken on this very sad horrible day. To continue his work he needs a replacement…
I asked him to relive that day for me, knowing it would be difficult, he recounts it in painful detail:
“I am a journalist in Syria. I am documenting the events that happen there and deliver pictures of what is happening to the world. Perhaps everyone has seen the picture of me that day. I deeply care… What happened on that day my colleagues and I were covering what was going on in the four cities. I was very close to terrorist bombing that took place, during this time my camera was broken. The pressure from the bomb actually saved my life pushing me away and throwing my camera away from me. I did not at first understand what was happening. The remains of women and children were filling the place. I could not think, I ran to a child who was struggling with death. I could not give him anything.More children were screaming to help them I and others rescued them getting them to the ambulance. I returned again watching children breathe their last breaths. I found a child in need and in my arms ran as fast as I could to the ambulance.” Abd Alkader Habak

Many of us have seen the video of his actions it went viral in April.

I am helping to raise money for his camera’s replacement with the guidance of gofundme( thank you Melinda !), as he is constantly on the move and the situation in Syria he has asked me to help out. The money because of American to Syria transfers are impossible, will first come my direction then will go to him via Transferwise in the manner suggested by GoFundMe. The money is solely for a camera that can allow him to do his work and stand up to the violent stresses of the human climate of Syria. I can think of very few Journalist who can put a human face not only to the suffering there but the few moments of peace. Please help out if you can...We will be so very thankful…
He is a honorable and wonderful friend…
