Hello Everyone,
My name is Brendan, I have a condition known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Which causes progressive muscle wastage as well as affecting the heart and lungs. Most boys with the condition rarely live pass their 20's. However I am extremely lucky and my heart has been unaffected. Quite a big surprise for both myself and the doctor and some of the best news I've ever been given. But it has affected my lungs and I require a ventilator to assist with my breathing. Sure I get a few stares but that's never phased me. I think it's kinda cool to look like a real life Darth Vader. But despite all that at the very least I'm alive and happy. And have a great loving, supportive family and friends. That's all that truly matters in the end.
Asking for financial help is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I don't know whether it's because I'm too proud or just my belief that things should be earned. But after many discussions with family and friends, as well as the service providers that help me get the equipment I need for everyday life. Such as my wheelchair and etc. I decided to give GoFundMe a go to acquire a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
With specialist appointments over an hour away we need a reliable vehicle to be able to attend them. Using Taxis to do so just isn't a viable option as it costs almost $300. Far more than a tank of fuel. And unfortunately the NDIS only helps with the modifications to existing vehicles and not the purchase of the vehicles themselves.
Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated. Even $1 provides a lot of help and gets me one step closer to my goal. And if you are unable to donate please share, as well as tell your family and friends offline.
A little about me…
I have a great interest in dinosaurs. I don’t care how they are depicted, whether Scientifically accurate or Hollywood monsters.
I enjoy designing things and coming up with new ideas and solutions to everyday problems.
Other interests include; Photography, Digital Art (Mostly Photoshop), target shooting using a specially made rifle mount, and much more.
