Zadock Pratt Museum

$1,571 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 20 people in 44 months
The Zadock Pratt Museum is looking to raise  $25,000 to get our flood-damaged collections back from Rapid Refile, a paper conservation firm in Allentown, PA where the papers were brought a few days after the flood (Aug. 28, 2011) to be frozen until we had the funds to thaw and conserve them. We've tried and tried to raise the $25,000 but with our many other infrastructure needs, it has been an impossible task up to now. Our paper collections contain 300 years of Prattsville, Greene County, Northern Catskills, New York State (whichever way you want to look at it) history and include historical documents, diaries, newspapers, rare books, photographs, art works on paper, letters, etc. Please help us retrieve our history by donating or spreading the word of our campaign.

The Zadock Pratt Museum's paper collections are still in frozen storage. They've been there for four years following the flood damage caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011. We still have a chance to recover and restore 300 years of Prattsville history, which is Catskills' history, which is New York State history. Our paper collections are too numerous to itemize but to give you a glimpse of the Museum's many treasures, we have approximately 30 photos by Prattsville farmer/photographer Hervey Peckham, who was born in Prattsville on Sept. 19, 1890. Hervey was one of 99 farmers who built up the dairy farming trade in Prattsville following best farm practices disseminated by Zadock Pratt through his dairy farm at the east end of Town several decades earlier.

I wonder if the local SAR/DAR chapters would be willing to help. Perhaps girl scout or boy scout troops as well. Raising money might be part of a Girl Scout Gold award or a Boy Scout Eagle Scout award.
