Everything burned, except for one vehicle.  The Willmers have been a vital part of the Kenilworth community for over 20 years; as neighbors, they are the ones who help unify and make our neighborhood a lovely, cohesive set  of friends. Raymond is the one who always checks in on others, making sure they are ok.  In fact, the night of the fire storm, he was the one who was calling the neighbors, warning them to evacuate.  He also is the one who makes sure our alternative exit from the Kenilworth community is open in an emergency so that people can safely exit.  He did that the night of the fire, and ironically, his is the house that burned down.  Raymond has always been involved, serving on neighborhood committees and even officiating as the minister at the wedding of one of the neighbors.  For entry to our close-knit community, we must drive through a one-lane, tree-lined road.  Raymond is the guy who during the night uses his chainsaw to clear fallen trees so the rest of us can get to work the next  morning. Raymond, like so many people in Sonoma County, works in the wine industry, which has also been devastated.  For years, Kate taught ESL  at a Sonoma school to help those nonnative residents needing to learn English. Their daughter Julia is finishing a degree in Economics at UC Davis.

Please join us in helping this fabulous, kind family in starting to rebuild their life. This has been a devasting, traumatic experience for the Willmers.  Together, we can make their lives liveable and the recovery a bit more bearable.

About us:  We are Quent Carter and Jim Spencer, neighbors of the Willmers on Kenilworth Ave in Kenwood, California.

It is our understanding that it will take a substantial amount of money to initially get a family back on its feet.  The money donated will be used for food, clothing, transportation, personal necessities, and temporary shelter in the interim and during the months it takes to rebuild. The  ultimate goal is to have the Willmers rebuild at the spot of their former home.  Our close-knit community cannot imagine their not being our neighbors.

Please join us in helping the Willmers recover from this horrific loss.

Three and a half months after the Nuns fire destroyed our home in Kenwood, taking all of our possessions and most of our olive orchard, we're finally back! Yes, back on the hill within our beloved community of friends, and back in spirit anticipating a rebirth of our home. It's funny how things work out in the midst of chaos. A neighbor, whom we had never met, offered his home for us to rent while we figure out our next steps. This beautiful place gives us a chance to follow our healing journey and stay connected to our neighbors. We can now gather up our tools, walk downhill to our land, and work on restoration projects in hopes of a new beginning. Just last weekend, the Army Corps of Engineers brought in their Sub-contractors and equipment to clean up the burned debris from our house and its contents. The land is now a beautiful canvas ready for its new design.

Of course, you were an essential member of the flock of support that flew in to hold us up and steady us when we couldn't think, eat, or feel the magnitude of what hit us. You not only assisted us financially, you helped pin our hearts on hope. Your actions instilled the model for us to help those in need in ways we may not have thought of. We are eternally grateful for your act of love in the wake of our hard times. Love won...again!

Thank you all so much,
Raymond and Kate Willmers

The Willmers wish to thank everyone for the love, support and donations that they have received since the fire. Because of your donations, on Sunday they were able to hire a crew to begin to heal their land where they had over 100 vintage olive trees that had been decimated by the wind gusts and subsequent fire that ultimately destroyed their home of 20 years. Even though they were reluctant for me to begin this campaign, they realize now that insurance will never be able to replace or repair everything. Your generosity is helping the Willmers family begin the healing journey.
Warm Regards, Jim

Kate and Raymond wish to thank all of you for the love and caring expressed by the generosity of your donations. As can be expected, Raymond and Kate are dealing with the multitude of emotional reactions and traumatic issues that come from such a loss. As Raymond indicated to me, "We are spending 15 hours a day dealing with paperwork, phone calls, and interviews. It is exhausting". Thanks to all who have helped make life for the two of them a bit more bearable through your generosity. Every little bit helps.
