Westbay CAP's Annual Appeal

Donation protected
The 1960’s were a turbulent time of change, and in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson decided it was time to change the way America fought poverty.

President Johnson went to “war” with American poverty determinded to mold his country into the great society of his dreams.

The War on Poverty legislation created countless programs to assist American citizens and their families with everything from education to keeping food on the table.

The War on Poverty also inspired many local organizations to help their community. One such organization, founded in 1966, was Warwick Community Action—the organization that would become Westbay Community Action.

Over forty-five years of service, Westbay’s commitment to helping the local community has only become stronger. While Westbay is eager to adapt to meet the changing needs of the community, our mission remains the same…

The mission of Westbay Communty Action, Inc. is to assist economically disadvantaged individuals and families achieve and sustain self-sufficiency.

In 2014, Westbay provided over 40,000 meals to elderly Rhode Island residents, assisted 1,900 women and children ages 5 and younger with Nutrition education, provided heating assistance to over 3,500 low income households,  managed a marketplace that provided food to more than 700 households (1,800 people) per month,   provided over 800 free tax returns,
assisted over 375 veterans and their families to  gain access to services, and provided over 90 children with early elementary education!

Westbay’s funding comes from an array of local, state and federal funds, as well as private organizations, donations and fundraising.  We are asking you to help us raise $10,000 this year by donating to our first  annual appeal.  Your  donation will allow us to educate children, feed elderly, and respond to any number of emergencies that can occur to an individual, single parent or family.

With support from the community, Westbay is able to make a difference in the lives of Kent County residents.  Westbay continues to be a resource center for people helping people, stabilizing families and individuals and promoting a better quality of life for the entire community.
