Waldo Canyon Wildfire Fund

Donation protected

Hi everyone! I'm sure you've heard of the Waldo Canyon Wildfire in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 3200 people have already been evacuated and hundreds of homes have already been destroyed. We've incurred over 3.2 million dollars in damages and lost property. The fire has consumed 6200 acres and is only 5% contained (they expect 100% containment in mid-July). The weather forecast for the next few days doesn't appear to help conditions. This is the most destructive wildfire in Colorado's history.

The biggest thing we need right now is financial donations. We have enough volunteers and enough food, but with 3.2 million (and growing) already gone, so many people displaced and the fire still spreading, we can't let it continue; we need money to pay for the resources to stop it. Any contribution you make, even a few dollars, is greatly appreciated. All donations will go straight to the Waldo Canyon Firefighters Fund, so those that are fighting the fires can use the money as needed.

Let's band together and help save this beautiful state! Thank you so much for your help!

Wildfire Safety Checklist:

  • Be ready to leave at a moment's notice.
  • Listen to local radio and television stations for updated emergency information.
  • Always back your car into the garage or park it in an open space facing the direction of escape.
  • Confine pets to one room so that you can find them if you need to evacuate quickly.
  • Arrange for temporary housing at a friend or relative's home outside the threatened area.
  • Listen and watch for air quality reports and health warnings about smoke.
  • Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and doors to prevent outside smoke from getting in.
  • Use the recycle or recirculate mode on the air conditioner in your home or car. If you do not have air conditioning and it is too hot to stay inside with closed windows, seek shelter elsewhere.
  • When smoke levels are high, do not use anything that burns and adds to indoor air pollution, such as candles, fireplaces and gas stoves. Do not vacuum because it stirs up particles that are already inside your home.
  • If you have asthma or another lung disease, follow your health care provider's advice and seek medical care if your symptoms worsen.

What to bring in case of evacuation:
  • Medicines, prescriptions and a first aid kit
  • Bottled water
  • Clothing and bedding (sleeping bags, pillows)
  • Flashlight, battery-powered radio and extra batteries
  • Special items for infants or elderly or disabled family members
  • Computer hard drive or laptop
  • Photographs
  • Pet food and other items for pets (litter boxes, leashes)
  • Important documents (insurance policies; prescriptions; birth and marriage certificates; passports, drivers licenses or personal identification; Social Security cards; recent tax returns; employment information; wills/deeds, stocks, bonds and other negotiable certificates; bank, savings and retirement account numbers and home inventory)
