New Mobile Office for Travel Tales
But here's the short of it:
We've been providing you, our faithful readers, with stories, free of charge, for the last 3 years. Blogging has been a giant investment of our time and money, and by doing it, we need to travel around with equipment we'd rather not have. Freedom's just another word for noting left to lose, and to travel with the gear necessary for the images, videos, and stories that we share, we have to sacrifice a whole lot of our traveling piece of mind.
Now short a computer after it got snatched from our van, while we were sleeping in it, we have no way to continue blogging. We could, of course, get a new one. It would require for us to invest more money, which means time away from travel, into our blog.
Just a few weeks ago, we were really excited for the months to come. Before the fiasco with the computer, I was in the middle of redesigning the site and had weaved together a fabulous team of photographers and storytellers from different parts of the world to transition We Travel and Blog into a collective, in order to add more fuel to the travel inspiration and help spread our message of ethical travel by incorporating local voices and stories.
What's more, just days before, we were selected by http://holidaylettings.co.uk/ as one of the top twenty photography blogs of 2015. It seems this year, the fire was really getting going with the blog.
However, we're currently looking at this as a test of our intentions, and of our readership.
We'd like to know how much our stories are worth to you. If you enjoy our tales, if you're at all inspired, if you ever read something we wrote, or saw a picture we took and thought "hey, that's pretty cool!" If you'd like to see more of what we've been up to and what we have up our sleeve, please consider that we've invested the last three years of our lives into this full time job, traveling, yes, but working while we do, to bring you inspiration and help teach the world to travel more ethically. Please consider that, while we do have a great time collecting stories and putting them together, we've never charged for any of it, and have put in a substantial amount of our own money into it. We've opened up a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds to purchase a new "work station" which means a laptop and the Adobe creative suite. Dependent on how well the campaign does, we'll consider the investment of our readership, versus the investment that we have to continue to put in to keep the blog going and propel it to the next level. We'll weigh out the scales and make a decision on whether, at this point in our lives, we'd rather focus on simply enjoying our travels, or if we would be making as big a mistake dropping the blogging ball as I almost made trying to sell Big Blu.
It's going to cost us about $4,000 CAD to get back up on our feet and continue bringing you stories. Of course, we don't expect to raise the full amount, but if everyone reading this post right now gave us just a dollar, we'd be able to take a large chunk off of our out-of-pocket expenses.
Although we do think it is fair to ask for a bit of compensation for our hard work, we also understand that some people our there feel that donations are just another word for getting nothing for something. Because of this we've added some reward levels. You'll find prints of Gabriel's photography, as well as some van life adventures with us as part of the rewards system.
Is anyone out there? Is anyone listening? Should we keep plugging away at this? Or is it time to just soak in the moment and keep these few upcoming years' worth of adventure for ourselves? What is our blog worth to you? Do you want to hear more from us? If you do, please consider throwing us a bone, and know that we'll forever be grateful for your generosity, whatever the outcome.
As always, thanks for reading.
You should be getting your rewards in the mail any-day-now if you haven't already. It took us a while since there's no mail in the DR and we weren't expecting to be there at all when we started this campaign, so we apologize dearly for the unexpected delay, but they are finally gone and hopefully in your mailbox.
If you don't receive anything soon, PLEASE, please, PLLLLEEEEAASSE shoot us a message to let us know so we can see where things went wrong and make sure the issue is rectified ASAP.
Of course, if you got your rewards and loved them, we're always grateful to have a lil' social-media heads up :D
We thank you so much for your continued support, and we want you guys to be the first to know that we are officially on the "road" again, spending the next 8 months doing a semi-around-the-world trip!!
We'll be updating the blog just as soon as humanly possible with loads more stories.
All the best to all of you.
Jade & Gabriel.
Our Campaign is officially closed. We are contacting all of the donors who ordered Instagram Magnets to please choose their images so we can have them printed and shipped out to you.
Please do so as soon as possible so everyone can receive their reward packages pronto.
We love you all. It means so much to us to have received this level of support.
All the best to everyone during these strange times. We will be in contact.
Jade & Gabriel
First, we would like to thank all of the donors from the bottom of our hearts for their support.
You'll be happy to know your donations went a very long way in helping us purchase a new laptop which is now in our possession and we will be using to update you in greater detail and on the blog as to our most recent adventures/misadventures!
We would also like to apologize to everyone for not being able to reach out to you all in the time frame that we had planned.
While we thought the van had been fixed permanently, it turns out that it has not.
We are saddened to tell you that for now, Big Blu is taking a breather in a storage space in Mexico.
We will be unable to continue the journey with her at this point, and trust us, we are as disappointed as you are about that.
Because of this, we have spent the last month scrambling to find a way to keep her safe until we are ready to come back to her, and have returned to our home in Cabarete for the time being, for our own breather.
HOWEVER, do not fear, we are currently redrawing our plans to keep traveling, sans-Vanagon, to lands as exotic as ever and are more dedicated than ever to bringing you tales from the road, and catch you up on everything since our last blog post.
We are also currently putting together all of your rewards! We hope to have them all ready for you and to your door by the holidays, because, well, it's the holidays!
If you picked a reward that involves photos that you must choose, we will be contacting you shortly for your decisions.
Thank you so much for your patience and continued support.
We leave you with this photo because it sums up pretty much everything!
We will keep the campaign open for another month, which is our expected purchase date, until then, any stragglers who still feel compelled to promote our blog and help us get back on feet quicker are obviously more than welcome to do so.
We appreciate your generosity and thank everyone who has donated or messaged us from the bottom of our hearts.
More stories to come soon!
