Since 1917, the Weirton Christian Center has been making a difference in the lives of children in Weirton, WV.

LAST YEAR, there were 277 children through our doors for all our FREE Programs....Preschool for 3 and 4-year-olds, Afterschool for K-12, Summer Programs for K-12.
Our cost-per-child was $1298 for the year - or $100 Monthly - $25 Weekly- $5 per day.  We receive no government compensation for these children. Any help you are able to provide is greatly appreciated.

The Center was started by a Baptist Missionary and continues operation as a 501c3, under the American Baptist Home Mission Society.  Started when immigrants were coming to work at Weirton Steel, the Center was the place they learned to speak English, and gained citizenship as well as much more over the years.

Today, we offer a free Pre-School and free Afterschool and Summer program for at-risk children from the age of 3 to 18. With the help of our donors, we are able to provide snacks, dinner, homework help, school supplies, computer programs like Lexia Core 5 to improve reading skills,  (since many do not have internet at home), transportation to and from the Center,  Jesus Loves You Scholarships to Church camp (91 went in 2014) special events and field trips they may not experience otherwise.  Our Project Journey, with the aid of our AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers, teaches the importance of good nutrition, fitness, literacy and lifeskills to prepare them for their futures. Music and Art programs make a huge difference for many of our children.

Our God's Helping Hand fund provides for Emergency family assistance.  We offer transportation for Pre-school, Christian Academy, Afterschool, Camp, Energy Express during the Summer Program and field trips.  We also provide a donation room for clothing, housewares, and school supplies available to our children and their families.  In the past year, we have been able to offer behavioral counseling for our children and even their parents.  We offer classes to train staff and parents in skills to better deal with the children we serve.  Our facility also provides a Visitation room for four different agencies who work with Child Protective Services and fostered children.  We started Weirton's first Community Garden last year and with 7 community partners.  Our goal is to teach our children and their parents about growing and eating healthy vegetables as both a nutrition and cost-saving experience.

We are a Matthew 25 Ministry.    We feed them, cloth them and care for them, as Jesus directs us to do.  Most of all, we want to give them a faith and relationship with the Lord that will sustain through all their lives.

Our summer program guides them through Mission Mondays, Life Skills Tuesdays, Art Wednesdays, Music Thursday, and Fitness Fridays.  We will transport them to and from WVU's Energy Express, Literacy Programs, Summer Camp and their homes to get them to the program.  They will receive a free lunch and snack every day, and each age group will have their own Bible Lesson and recreation at our Christian Fellowship Park.

But all of this takes funding - groceries, gasoline, supplies, maintenance, and enough good people to make it all happen.  Please help us generate the funds we need to create a phenomenal Summer Program at the Weirton Christian Center!  Your donations, and your prayers for our ministry are greatly appreciated.

Kim Weaver

We are reaching out once again for support of our children and our programs. As we end our summer program and move into fall, there is a real need for program funding in order to keep the programming going as it has been. For the first time, we have started charging registration fees for Summer - and will for fall. As we would love to keep our program free so that children in all income levels can benefit from our feeding program, transportation, homework help, computer lab, tutoring, and special events - this will not be possible without ongoing support. Since we have been trying to raise funds for a new building, and many of our supporters are from the flooded areas of West Virginia - we need to expand our area of support. Any amount of support would be appreciated at this time. The cost for a child to attend our programs would be $100 per month if we were to charge. Since many are not able to afford that, and we are not supported by the state or federal government - we count on the generosity of individual donors and churches across the country. We are in our 99th year of helping area families, and mentoring children from the ages 3 to 18. There is a need for what we provide more than ever. We truly are making a DIFFERENCE in the lives of the children we serve. Our staff of quality teachers and mentors...our transportation services to get them to and from programs...and the cost of feeding lunches, snacks and dinners each day is constantly on the rise. We would truly appreciate your support - if it is on your heart to help us continue making that difference in community of Weirton, WV. If it is on your heart to help us continue making that difference in community of Weirton, WV, we would truly appreciate your financial support at this time. Thanks for considering us.

We are so appreciative of the support we have already received! As we are halfway through our summer program, the need is still there! We are currently serving 94 children from Kindergarten through High School for the Summer! And we are transporting children daily to Energy Express, then home or to the Center…to and from Kindergarten Readiness and Summer Program for K - 5 then again for 6th -12th Grades. We transport each week to the Library for literacy programs, Drama Direct for Music Lessons and also to visit at the Weirton Geriatric Center and Wyngate Senior Living. We feed them daily and provide snacks, along with programs for Literacy, Fitness, Art, Music, Missions, and Life Skills. Every day, they are also provided with Bible lessons based on the Values they they need to know. We have been able to send 80 children to Elkhorn Valley Christian Camp through our Jesus Loves You Scholarships. There is no charge to these children for any of our programs or services. We count on the generosity of those who want to make a difference in the lives of children to keep the programs alive. So THANK YOU for your support and your prayers!

We are now underway and have a heavy schedule of transporting children to and from Energy Express and to and from the Center as well as the library, Church Camp at Elkhorn Valley and field trips. Each "Mission Monday" our Kindergarten and first grade students will be taken to Wyngate Senior Living or Weirton Geriatric to visit.

We are looking forward to a fun summer for area children - with activities for their minds, bodies and souls - from Kindergarten through High School.
