Velathon for The Layla-mae Appeal
Donation protected
We will be cycling the 2016 Velathon the 22nd May which is the UK’s 3rd biggest sportive along 140km of South Wales for Layla-mae, Daughter of Gareth and Niece of George.
Layla-mae is an 8 year old girl who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 5, along with severe complex epilepsy, which has also caused autism and significant impairment to her memory and understanding. Layla-mae was transferred to Great Ormand Street Hospital in 2014 for specialist treatment and brain surgery and still remains under their specialist care. We are fundraising to support Layla-mae and our family by easing the costs and the financial implications of the journeys to GOSH, support to allow us as both parents to be with
Layla-mae, all that are not covered by the NHS and to obtain necessary but unfunded equipment.
A challenge that neither of us has undertaken before and having only begun training a little over two months ago we are going to use every piece of energy we have to complete this Velathon for Layla-mae.
The route is a challenging route, incorporating two famous & notoriously difficult climbs. Riding from
Cardiff to the East, visiting Newport and Usk, entering Brecon Beacons National Park to tackle the legendary Tumble climb – a highlight of stage 3 at this year’s Tour of Britain and home to Velothon Wales’ King of the Mountains challenge. The route then via Pontypool & Newbridge to Caerphilly & one final climb up Caerphilly mountain, finishing with a fast decent to the finish line in the city Centre. Total climb: 1826 metres.
We would be very grateful for any sponsorship and support that people can give. Just a little makes all of the difference and means so much. Without the support to date we would never have been able to manage to get Layla-mae the care and help she needs, or to have been able to be with her at the times that have mattered the very most!
Thank you,
Gareth & George
