UC Men's Rugby ACRC Bowl Trip

I am Nathan Dixon, the fundraising chair for the University of Cincinnati Men’s Rugby team. This fall our team has been ranked nationally and recently had a huge win over Bowling Green State University(previously ranked #14 DI rankings). With all of our accomplishments, our team has been invited to participate in the ACRC bowl series down in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 20-22.
The American Collegiate Rugby Championship (ACRC) bowl series will feature high-level collegiate rugby. This 20-team bowl competition will feature the very best college rugby teams from around the country at Charlotte’s Rugby Athletic Center. Attendance this year is expected to reach 5,000-6,000 people.
UC Men’s Rugby club’s attendance at this event will further establish the team as a nationally competitive program capable of competing against the nation’s top teams. On Nov. 21st, UC will take on Stony Brook (currently ranked #25 in the DI college rankings). Achieving a win against a nationally recognized club such as Stony Brook will continue to increase our club’s name recognition.
We are looking at numerous different ways to fundraise to be able to make this trip happen. The trip in total will cost around $9,000 for the team to travel down in a charter bus, book hotel rooms and pay for the entry fee. The team is looking for a charter bus to cover the safety of all of our players. As a club sports team we usually travel in 15 passenger vans that have the student athletes drive. This requires us to organize numerous vans and logistics as well as having players drive these vans after games. The drive will take 7 hours and 27 minutes and we are looking to take this burden off of our player’s shoulders.
This is the first time in our club’s history that we have been invited to participate in such a prestigious event. Our team is very eager to take on the challenge of competing at this top-tier event. The officers and coaches have been working closely over the past week to brainstorm opportunities to help bankroll this trip without resorting to collecting more dues. As in prior years, our club will be competing during the spring semester, as well. Our hope is raise enough funds for this bowl game without completing exhausting our
funds before heading into another spring semester with extensive travelling.
