We are out here on the Key Peninsula in Western Washington, to do something great, and we need your help.
Let's talk about bees.
If you are reading this, you probably already know about the decline of the honeybee.
Like these two lovely ladies....

If you DON'T know about it, here's the 30 second brain dump:
Honeybees are in trouble--they are going extinct.
Opinions differ as to why, and the debate can be heated--and political.
Without politics: A combination of factors has made the honeybee species succeptible to diseases carried by the Varroa mite. Don't ask a politician or an activist--ask a beekeeper.
The Varroa mite is public enemy number one.
While the politicos fight it out for who is to blame, someone has to go save the planet. So that is us.
It doesn't matter WHO put the hole in the boat, just BAIL.
The resultant decline in honeybee populations is severe and getting worse. Without human intervention, the honeybee will go extinct.
This would be a disaster for agriculture at a global level. Without the pollination efforts of honeybees, crop yeilds across the board would drop--experts say as much as 50%. That's 50% of the foods you see in the grocery store, gone.
We (humans) need bees.

So we are starting a Bee Farm.
TwoDog Honey Farm, will produce honey, beeswax products, and most importantly--MORE BEES! (Providing nucleus hives, package bees, and queens to other beekeepers and agricultural concerns.)
This campaign is to fund the launch of a sustainable, natural honey farm...
***And then to use this enterprise as a platform for a queen breeding program--to develop colonies with greater resistance to the Varroa mite.***
But we need to get started--so we need your help.
Stage One: This is what we need the money for.
We need to establish these hives now, so they can grow strong for the winter. Hives, bees, and construction materials.
We will be using six, natural wood, Langstroth-style beehives. Bees will be managed with natural solutions only--no pesticides.
These hives will feature the productive and friendly, Italian Honeybee. (Apis mellifera ligustica)
Season One Goals:
*Install the Bee Yard: Hive Racks, Hives, Bees, Security and Shelter solutions.
*Establish healthy colonies and grow population.
*Split hives by the end of the season to begin next season with 10-12 strong, established hives.
(The hives will produce some honey this season--but they really won't take off until spring.)

Honey, baby, honey! Name on plaque as above, plus: From our first harvest, we send you a 1lb jar of our Natural Honey!
$40-$100: Bee Sentinel...
All of the above, but you get 3 month honey subscription! (1lb/month for 3 months, starting from the first harvest!) Finally! Something good in the mail!
$101-$250: Bee Protector...
