Rebuilding the 1907 New Mexico Homestead

We built a Tiny Home!

We are ALMOST finished with our Tiny Home in New Mexico and we found the land to put it on!

We'll be moving the Tiny Home in the next few weeks to a wonderful piece of property that has water, sewer, gas and electric already in place.  The property comes with a bonus - a 900 square foot home!  (However, the home has been totally gutted...)

We will live in the Tiny Home and fix the house as we have the time and money. Two lots;  owner financed - the property will be paid in full in just 2.5 years - at only $300 a month payments!!!  Property taxes are just $200 a year.  Although the down payment and closing costs basically took all of our cash on hand,we are very excited about the opportunity.

The land also has space (with utilities) for another Tiny Home builder to start their dream!  We have heard from several people who currently live in apartments or otherwise have no "location" available to start a build.  To you, we offer you the space to do so!  (About 60 miles outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico.)

We are not crazy. We're finally being smart and taking control of our living costs! Our goal is to reduce our monthly living expenses to improve the quality of our life.

Julia - 46 - Self Employed Small Business Owner - Supporting 13 permanent part-time workers.

Ed - 47 - Ed is an HVAC Estimator by trade - Unemployed without benefits.(Employer went out of business when the economy went south.)  Actively seeking ANY work. Ed is a Cancer and Heart Attack survivor. We do not have medical, dental or life insurance. We're exciting that Tiny living will finally allow us to purchase our own insurance!

Julia and Ed in October 2018.  (Enjoyin a gift we received:  Journey and Def Leppard Concert at Isleta Ampitheater!)

Three pets - Small Pug named Pez and two Cats, Bubba and Missy. (Missy is camera shy.) Bubba was diagnosed with Kidney failure in the fall with $1500 vet bill.  Bubba is recovering with our giving him IV fluids twice a day. He is loving and happy and makes us smile.  We are grateful for every Kitty Cat day!

We have not used any credit cards in over three years, but we can't seem to do much more than pay the minimum monthly payments and the balances have barely gone down. We want to be out of debt so that we can live and enjoy life! To get out of debt, we must reduce our living expenses.

February 2012:  We purchased a trailer off of Craig's List for $400.

We scour Craig's list, Re-Store and Garage Sales. Our Tiny Home Expenses, so far, have totaled $4500. (But we have SAVED $3147 from the suggested retail value on the items we have acquired to date!)

We had our first GARAGE SALE in April 2012 and raised over $1000!!!  "Letting go" of all of the "stuff" was a bit more difficult than we   thought it would be. But, it was just "stuff".  We had our second Garage Sale in January 2014 - this round was much more difficult in letting things go. After 17 years in the same home, we had accumulated LOTS of stuff! We cleaned out every room, every drawer & closet,   the garage, the shed and the yard. We sold our "collections". It was great weather with a great turnout. The newspaper ad and signs which read, "COOL CRAP", really got a lot of attention. We raised $1300.  Honestly, there is very little that we missed after it was gone.

However - even the stuff we kept was TOO MUCH.  If you are going to live in a Tiny House you can not have "stuff".  Only the basics that you need.

We would prefer to find in Albuquerque "“ but we can pick up items within a 100 mile radius.

While we would love to be totally sustaining and off-grid, at first, that will not be a reality. We do have a wind generator and an aqua-ponics system for growing vegetables. Most likely, we will run off of a combination of electric, solar, wind, natural gas, propane and wood.

We will update you with our purchases and progress! We will happily answer all questions. We will send photos, lists, details and descriptions to all who ask.

No donation is too big or small! If you wish to donate any of the items we need, we are happy to come pick up the items!

Thank you for helping us to make this a reality - and to give us the opportunity to really live the American Dream!

Love,
Ed & Julia and
Pez, Bubba, Missy
