The Peoples Voice Party-Reading NY

From the left - Gita Devi, Tamra Jankowski, Muriel Osborne-Petryk, and Bill (Buzz) DeSarno!!  The Peoples Voice party!

The Peoples Voice party represents change for the Town of Reading NY.   Gita Devi and Tamra Jankowski are running for 2 of the Town Board seats available this fall.  Muriel Osborne-Petryk is running for the Town Clerk position.  And Bill (Buzz) DeSarno is running for Town Supervisor.

It's good to oppose things we think and know are wrong. But what we need to make real change is more people to stand up to restore good government, at every level. We're not just against something, we're for something: for being heard, for participating,  for this community and for its people. For all that we hold dear.

And we need your help to make change happen.  We need funds to help pay for mailings, postage, lawn signs, etc.  And we'll need help with campaigning - going door-to-door and making phone calls.

Can we count on you?

Meet the Candidates Running for Town Board:

Tamra Jankowski
Tamra and her husband John purchased the “old Miller farm” on County Road 28 in 2002 to enjoy the peace and tranquility of country living. She has two children, two stepchildren, and one grandchild. She was born and raised in Western NY, moved to Pine Valley in 1976, and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in Elmira Heights in 1977. Out of high school, Tamra traveled and lived in California, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Her desire to return “home” was always present and she knew she would eventually return. Tamra has been employed by the Corning Federal Credit Union as a Senior Finance Analyst for the last 10 years. Prior to that she was the Vice President of Finance for Glenora Wine Cellars for several years. She has over 35 years of extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting and accounting. She also owns and operates a small business, Wine a Bit and More, which sells hand-painted wine glasses throughout the Finger Lakes region and online. Tamra enjoys gardening, painting, biking, running, and living in the quiet hillsides of Seneca Lake with her husband of 10 years and her dog Benjamin.

Tamra is inspired to run as a Councilwoman for the Reading Town Board to preserve the life she is accustomed to and loves, and also to provide public service in gratitude for her life’s blessings.

Gita Devi
Gita runs two businesses: the Ginger Cat Bed & Breakfast in the town of Reading (established in 2008) and a web design company. She represents the Town of Reading on the Schuyler County Environmental Management Council.  She has been a member of the Schuyler County Lodging and Tourism Association since 2008, acting as Vice-Chair and Secretary for the past 5 years. She is also on the board of the Humane Society of Schuyler County, as Secretary. Originally from Massachusetts, Gita moved to the area 9 years ago.  As an animal lover all of her life, she was Director of Adoptions and Internet Development for The Second Chance Fund for Animal Welfare (SCFAW).  She also managed SCFAW's small cat shelter for several years.  She moved to the town of Reading to begin working at Farm Sanctuary and also quickly got involved with the Humane Society.  She assists with spay/neuter clinics, fostering kittens, helping with events and web site and social media design, and handles social media mailings.  She's a vegan, an avid gardener, carpenter, accomplished cook, wood worker and crafter. Gita received her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a major in French and minor in Spanish. She worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 20+ years as a Business Systems Analyst and Web Designer.

Gita cares deeply about preserving the beauty of the area, ensuring the continued growth of our tourism-related businesses and believes that residents should have a voice that is listened to and acted upon by their elected officials.

Muriel Osborne-Petryk
Muriel was born and has lived in the Town of Reading her entire life.  She was manager of Chalet Leon Motel for 8 years, worked as a receptionist for a doctor and worked at Schuyler Hospital in the Physical Therapy department as a clerk for over 10 years.  She has the qualifications needed to be Town Clerk.

She believes tha the Town Clerk position shouldbe a vocation with accessibility to every person in the Town Reading, working with the Town Board.

She wants to be a servant for her neighbors and all who live in the Town of Reading.

If elected, she will go back to the old business hours of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 - 12 and Wednesday from 5-9.  From January - April 1st, the Town Hall would be open from 9-12 as well.
