The Black Hills Sioux Nation Council delegates call on supporters around the world to help us counter the expensive public relations campaigns and lobbying efforts funded by Energy Transfer Partners, the corporation that owns the Dakota Access Pipeline. We believe that the targeted and misleading narratives they have produced, and continue to produce, have lead to unnecessary tension and violence against water protectors and Native People. We will be producing short videos for distribution on social media, as well as training Lakota and other Native youth in video storytelling and distribution.
We believe that the full story behind the Dakota Access Pipeline needs to be told. Our goal is to report on the issue from all angles, especially those that mainstream media has yet to capture. The story of Standing Rock is a microcosm of the ongoing institutional prejudice toward Native Americans. We plan to unveil this mass discrimination by exploring the culture and misconceptions surrounding this indiginous community.
An unprecedented number of Native American Tribes as well as the recent inclusion of United States Veterans have united in their fight to protect the most important resource on this planet, water. Their mission is one based on prayer and non-violence and we believe that the government's involvement (federal, state, police, etc) to date has been undemocratic, unacceptable and without basis in law. This is a story that needs to be told and shared.
We at Thought Pirates are creating a mix of short and long-form content for distribution initially on social media. In addition, we'll create training-of-trainers program with Lakota and Native youth that ensures a steadily increasing number of committed young media producers and the subsequent video content needed to support of the movement.
Our needs:
First and foremost, we need all of you to share the content we create with your networks. We'll be posting our videos online, along with Dropbox links or similar for people to download and share as they like. Please look out for these in December and get the word out.
Current efforts are self-funded but we would like to extend our training programs and purchase additional equipment for our young trainees.
