Trump Bars 2 Brothers with Visas

Donation protected
Tareq and Ammar Aziz have been stranded in Ethiopia because Donald Trump wrote an executive order denying them access to the United States, after having valid visas issued that took over 2 years to acquire. The two brothers from Yemen landed at Dulles Saturday morning, believing they'd be connecting to Flint, MI to join their father, a U.S. citizen.  They'd had to come to the U.S. through Africa because the U.S. embassy in Yemen has been closed for some time.

Instead, Tareq and Ammar, who are 21 and 19 repectively, were taken off the plane, put into handcuffs and after 2 hours were put on the same plane back to Africa.  I spoke with the boys father this morning and his sons are being told they may now be sent to Djibouti, where there Visas were issued.

The Legal Aid Justice Center, whom many of you know is my favorite non-profit on the planet, stepped in to help the 2 brothers and are working to get the brothers Visas back and honored by this country.  You can check with all the work they and others are doing legally to try and help.

What I'm concerned about is 2 young men whom their father isn't sure have enough money to eat today.  They are trapped in an African airport with no options.  Imagine if this was your family!  The boys have also told their father that there are 11 other people trapped in Addis Ababa airport with them including a mother with a 4 year old child.

We are better than this!  Please join me in making a contribution that will allow us to get money to the Azzis brothers and the others to eat, sleep and survive.  I can't fix all that Trump is doing to make me not recognize my country, but I can stand up for 2 young men who didn't deserve to be taken out of the airport in handcuffs when they had valid visas to join their father in the United States.  Please join me!!!

2/3/17 Update-I have been in continued conversations with Aqel Aziz, Tareq and Ammar's father.   Mr. Aziz has been keeping me updated on the boys move from Adis Abbaba to DbiJouti and how they are living day to day there.    Thanks to the generous contributions, we have enough money to make sure the boys can stay in a hotel, have transport, communication and food.

I've put Aqel Aziz as the person who can withdraw the finds and use them on his sons behalf.   We are in a limbo period now waiting to see what magic the Legal Aid Justice Center can do toget their visas reinstated and allowed to come back in this country.  Then we'll need airfares but that's tomorrow's problem.  Today I am grateful these young men are safe, well -represented and hopeful.   Their Dad is a tireless fighter on their bahelf!
