Support the TWLF2016 Hunger Strike

Donation protected
Support the students of San Francisco State University as they fight to defend and advance ethnic studies! In response to impending budget cuts that would gut SFSU’s historic College of Ethnic Studies, the students of the College organized to release 10 demands to SFSU President Leslie Wong and Provost Sue Rosser. Wong and Rosser have refused to meet and engage with the College of Ethnic Studies, and students have had enough.

Paying homage to their movement elders under the name Third World Liberation Front 2016, four students from the College of Ethnic Studies began an indefinite hunger strike on May 2 with the goal of achieving their first demand: $8 million in direct funding for the College of Ethnic Studies to restore it to pre-recession levels. These students—Hassani Bell, Julia Retzlaff, Sachiel Rosen, and Ahkeel Mestayer—have put their bodies on the line for ethnic studies, but the administration has responded with indifference and intimidation, including the threat of arrest.

Third World Liberation Front 2016 is committed to resisting the attack on ethnic studies and the gentrification of public higher education. Your contributions will help the hunger strikers and their fellow organizers sustain this movement.

This fund is put forth in solidarity by the Stanford University coalition Who’s Teaching Us?, which fights for faculty diversity, ethnic studies, and support for marginalized students. As Stanford students, we recognize our great debt to our Bay Area family for bringing about the first College of Ethnic Studies in the nation in 1968. We invite people similarly concerned with justice in education to join in solidarity with TWLF 2016.
