Stefan`s eyes surgery

March 2013. Stefan was 19 years old, athlete, full of dreams to finish high school and start building his own life. That morning, just couple of days before the school year ended, he was at school when he received the text message from a girl he believed was his friend. She inviting him for a coffee. Stefan replied he will be there in 15min as the café was just across the street from his school.
As he stepped into the café, he was attacked from the back by Darko R. (21), ex-prisoner, who attacked him with a baseball bat. Nikola S.(20) was Darko`s accomplice - helping Darko in violent plan to kill Stefan. Darko R is known to the police as he was a prisoner in 2011 for violently attacking another high school student with an axe and attacking a police officer.
Darko R. was beating Stefan with a baseball bat straight in the head, smashing his skull. Stefan was taken to the ER with major vital injuries. He was in coma for 120 days. The best neurologist in Serbia were working on this case and Dr. Nikolic was trying desperately to save Stefan`s life. Stefan`s case wasn`t found in any of the Neurological injury cases, as an example where the patient has survived. Stefan was in total coma without major vital functions. All doctors, who were involved, told his parents that they did everything they could, and that it just depends of Stefan`s young body to overcome extreme injuries and survive. However, they said, no one ever survived what Stefan experienced – his brain was smashed.
Stefan`s mother and family stayed by his side for all those 120 days – day and night. Talking to him, sharing love and helping him survive. They believed Stefan can hear them talking and giving him all their love. His mother Mira was sleeping on the chair beside his bed, staying with him 24/7, days and nights, for 120 days…
And miracle happened! Stefan woke up! Everyone was extremely happy! However no one new that was the day when the biggest struggle of his life began. Stefan survived but the injuries were so difficult that we wasn`t able to breath, eat, see, move his body, feel or remember anything. He couldn`t talk. He needed diapers. He could only hear and nothing else.
Since then, Stefan and his mother, who is his caretaker, live at the rehabilitation hospital Dr. Miroslav Zotovic. For the last three years Stefan has been going through extremely painful exercises (his muscles atrophied after 120 of coma and heavily affected his nerves) and Stefan start having epileptic attacks during his stretches.
Today, after 3 years, he needs constant care and he is blind. He used to be a strong young athlete full of life and dreams, and today he is a blind boy who is fully dependent of his parents. Because of his blindness he is not even able to go outside by himself.
His blindness is defined by ophthalmologist such as: left eye he can see 22% and the right eye he can see 0%.
After months of serching for a solution, Stefan`s mother found a doctor in Russia who has a special technique for eye surgeries. Dr. prof. Muldashev is using Alloplant biomaterials for eye regenerative surgery. The procedure itself is very costly and Stefan would need couple of surgeries for each eye. One surgery, is around 10,000 euros which is $15,000. Stefan has his first Alloplant eye surgery (out of 4 or 6, depending how his body and immune system reaction to the surgery) in October 2016.
