Shelly Finn Owings Memorial Fund

Shelly Hannah Finn Owings, 54, of Middletown, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.  She was not only a wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, she was a fabulous mentor, teacher extraordinaire, and champion for children..

Mrs. Owings was born in 1960, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of the late John T. and Joyce M. Finn. She was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Class of 1979 and Kent State University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She started her teaching career at Robert E. Aylor Middle School in Stephens City, VA and was currently teaching at Harper Park Middle School in Leesburg, Virginia. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. She loved collecting dolls, cats, children’s miniature furniture, purses and antiques. She also enjoyed her shopping sprees with her sister Bridget. Mrs. Owings greatest enjoyment was teaching and she adored all of her students, present and past.

She married John K. Owings on July 13, 1995, in Middletown, Virginia.

Surviving with her husband is their son, Johnny Finn Owings of Middletown; her sisters, Colleen Rebellino Gericke and husband, Bruce, of Stevensville, Montana, Marianne Sherman and husband, Thomas, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Bridget Finn Wymer and husband, Russell, of Strasburg, Virginia; and her brother, Daniel J. Finn and wife, Laura Duke, of Erie, Pennsylvania; step brother, Dr. Charles Chase (Elana) of Winter Park, FL. She is also survived by her close friends, Sandra Duke, Barbara Clevenger and Joanie Anderson, and her extended family at Harper Park Middle School.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her step-mother, Delores Chase Finn.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-9:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middletown, Virginia.
