The New York Sikh Council is a non-profit organization with a mission to spread love, peace and unity as well as raise awareness on Sikhi within our incredibly diverse communities of New York.
We hope to spread awareness of the beautiful diversity our great city has to offer in the forms of events, informational sessions and social programs.
A major aspect of Sikhi is Langar. Langar is the free communal kitchen service that is part of every single Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship and education) in the world. No matter your race, ethnicity, social status, Langar is served to everyone.
Langar is a huge component in what distinguishes the Sikh community, and what allows us to contribute to society in a huge way. Keeping the fundamental concept of Langar in mind, during this time of giving and holiday spirit, the New York Sikh Council will be serving langar to the people of New York City.
Federal data shows nearly 80,000 homeless people in New York City, which is absolutely absurd! Our goal is to help as many people in need as we can with a full vegetarian meal. As of right now, the date we will be going into Manhattan is TBD, however, it will be before Christmas!
To ensure we can help as many people as possible, we need the support of the community. Whether you are Sikh or not, every dollar will go a long way. Even if you can’t donate, we will need as many people as possible to volunteer, help cook the Langar, as well as help distribute it through out the City.
