Senior Thesis Project: Service Trip to Puerto Rico

On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria destroyed Puerto Rico. This category 5 hurricane destroyed homes, hospitals, and schools, and killed 3,057 people. Over one year later, Puerto Rico still remains destroyed, with many residents leaving the island in search of a better quality of life.

We are a group of five high school seniors who are dedicated to helping rebuild Puerto Rico and raise awareness that this devastation still exists. For our senior thesis project, we plan to travel to Puerto Rico in April 2019 to volunteer with local organizations that assist with disaster relief cleanup, animal shelters, and schools. In addition to volunteering, we will also donate much needed supplies to community organizations.

Our goal is to make an impact in the Puerto Rican communities while documenting our experience. We hope to create a documentary that shows how much devastation still remains in Puerto Rico, and use this documentary to inspire students like us to stand up and make a change.
