Save the LHES Chimney Swifts
Donation protected
The chimney at Lincoln Heights Elementary School is slated for demolition come January 2017. The chimney is currently home to a colony of small birds called chimeny swifts, which are oftentimes mistaken as bats in the evening skies over the summer months. The LHES PTA has been working with the STEM coordinator, Ms Stooks, in addition to Environmental Educator Mr Randy Senzig, in an attempt to save this habitat.
We have discussed options with WCPSS facilities director, Mr Brian Conklin, who provided an estimated cost of between $45 - $66k to preserve or reconstruct an alternate chimeny at LHES (with guidance from the Wake Audubon Society).
Our attempt to raise funds of this magnitude may be just a shot in the dark, but if we never try, it will surely never happen.
Any support or sharing of this effort is greatly appreciated, and if we don't reach our goal and succeed in saving the swifts, all funds raise will be used to support the LHES conservation effort.
