STOP Workplace Cancer Disability Discrimination

Donation protected
In January 2016 at age 39, I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer which led to a further diagnosis of being a BRCA2 mutation carrier, 8 cycles of chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and 5 years of anti-hormone treatment.

Being determined to fight the disease and keeping my chin up, I was severely impeded by the discriminatory conduct of my employer.
Rather than giving me the required support, they put all possible obstacles in my way and I ended up having to sue them for disability discrimination. My case includes failure to make reasonable adjustments, discrimination arising from disability, harassment and constructive dismissal.

The case is contested by my former employer. It is very complex and listed for a public seven day hearing in April 2019 at the Employment Tribunal in London, which means I have to be represented by a barrister, thus creating immense costs for me.

Studies uncovered that 1 in 5 people experience disability discrimination in the workplace after cancer.

This will never stop if such cases are not brought to the Tribunal. Sadly, most often they are not, as after cancer diagnosis and cancer treatment, most cancer sufferers often lack the energy and finances to bring a case to the Tribunal.

Therefore, bringing my case to the Tribunal is very important for me. To be diagnosed with cancer is already unfair in itself, but having to face discrimination at work because of cancer was the most unfair experience I ever had. Employers have to do more to prevent this happening and awareness needs to be raised.

Surely 1 in 5 people is a high number, so I would be grateful for your support!
